However, I have dated guys before whose parents I knew wouldn't exactly be jumping for joy at the news of any permanent arrangement. <br /><br />The guy I dated for five years in college and after graduation called me a couple of weeks before his "surprise" wedding to a girl he had known for a month and asked if he should put me on the invite list. I said NOTHING about the fact that if he had to ask, the answer was probably "No". Instead, I feigned profuse happiness at his "good fortune" and wished him the very best...then explained that I was unavoidably detained in DC and wouldn't be able to make it to the happy event.
